The former Dallas Cowboys receiver is on the move.
Free agent wide receiver Michael Gallup will sign a one-year contract worth up to $3 million with the Las Vegas Raiders, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Gallup, 28, spent all six years of his NFL career with the Cowboys. The Colorado State University product was selected by Dallas in his third round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
He appeared in all 16 games in his rookie season and had a career year in 2019. That year, he set career highs in targets (113), catches (66), receiving yards (1,107), and touchdowns (6). All of these still remain as career high points.
Gallup had another strong season in 2020, catching 59 passes for 843 yards and five touchdowns, becoming a serious threat in the Cowboys' passing game. Unfortunately, Gallup spent 2021 marred by injuries. He missed the first two months of the season with a calf injury and tore his ACL in January 2022.
Despite the injury, the Cowboys signed Gallup to a five-year, $57.5 million extension in March of that year, allowing him to return to the field in October. Unfortunately for him, he didn't perform as well as he did before the injury, with just 39 receptions for 424 yards and four touchdowns.
2023 was another down year for Gallup, with 34 receptions for 418 yards and two touchdowns. Even though Dallas didn't have a true No. 2 option behind CeeDee Lamb, Gallup couldn't be that player. He was the team's fourth-leading receiver behind Lamb, tight end Jake Ferguson and wide receiver Brandin Cooks.
Although the deal with Gallup didn't work out, the Cowboys acquired him after the 2024 season. The Cowboys waived Gallup this offseason after attempting to trade the former third-round pick. The move created $9.5 million in cap space, but will count as $8.7 million against the 2025 salary cap.
Gallup will get a fresh start in Las Vegas, joining a deep receiver room that includes Davante Adams, Jacobi Meyers and Tre Tucker. The Raiders also have two strong tight ends in Michael Meyer and recent first-round draft pick Brock Bowers, whom the team took with the 13th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
As for the Cowboys, they have had a quiet offseason in which they have lost far more than they have gained. Their two biggest acquisitions were in the running back room, signing veteran Royce Freeman and recently bringing back former All-Pro running back Ezekiel Elliott.
The Cowboys wide receiver room currently has a ton of unproven players in Lamb, Cooks, Jalen Tolbert and Kavonte Turpin.
