Luka Doncic continues to set records in these NBA playoffs despite not having the best series in terms of efficiency. With an and-one in the third quarter of Game 5 against the Los Angeles Clippers, Doncic has scored 20 points in 16 straight NBA playoff road games, passing Michael Jordan for the longest streak in a career start. . , according to Mavericks PR.
Jordan's streak lasted from his first playoff appearance in his rookie season until the 1989 playoffs, when it ended in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinals against the New York Knicks, when Jordan finished with 15 points. In those 15 games, he averaged 36.87 PPG.
By comparison, Doncic averaged 34 PPG in the first 15 road games to start his playoff career (the 2020 Bubble Playoffs don't count because they weren't true road games). Still, whenever you're mentioned alongside perhaps the greatest player of all time, it's worth celebrating.
Doncic has largely struggled in this series against his own standards, shooting just 38.6 percent from the field and 26.5 percent from 3-point range in Game 5 while dealing with an illness and a sprained knee. He is still one of the best players in the world despite his “struggles” as he is able to influence many aspects of the game.
