The Dallas Mavericks will soon face the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 5 of the series, tied 2-2 through the first four games. It was an interesting back-and-forth series with both teams sharing home court advantage.
With a crucial Game 5 coming up that will likely swing the series in favor of the eventual winner, the Mavericks were vandalized just outside Crypto.com Arena with the words “From Dallas to Cancun” written on it. A signboard appeared. Near the arena.
Skyscanner poked fun at Mavericks by promoting the company where users can find cheap flights to Cancun. This is a perfect ad placement, considering the annual joke of “sending the team to Cancun” if the team is eliminated from the NBA playoffs.
However, this is not necessarily what companies should do in certain situations. On the other side of the joke is Luka Doncic and the Mavericks, who have extra motivation to come steal another game on the road to Los Angeles. He may be playing through an injury to his foot, but he's more than capable of sparking a fire with his star power and absolutely stealing this game.
Also, the Clippers aren't necessarily a team known for closing deals or being able to close out games or series. If it had been a more established team known for rising to the occasion, this team would have been in a better position.
Still, it's a fun joke that will go away as soon as the series returns to Dallas for Game 6, no matter the outcome of Game 5.
For the Mavericks, playing Game 5 on the road would likely end the series. All they have to do is get back to their home floor, American Airlines Center, where they nearly completed a 20-plus point comeback in Game 4. And end the series. Needless to say, this is a huge opportunity for Dallas.
