DALLAS — A 30-foot-deep sinkhole closed a road in Dallas County Friday morning, officials said.
Deputies responded Friday morning to a call about a traffic hazard in the 1300 block of Malloy Bridge Road near Ferris in southeast Dallas County. Callers reported that large sections of the road were missing and had large potholes.
When deputies arrived, they found a 10-foot-long and 30-foot-deep sinkhole on the side of the road.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, sinkholes occur when the ground below the surface can no longer support the land. Usually they form so slowly that the changes are hardly noticeable, but they can form suddenly when collapse occurs.
The road remained closed at 9:30 a.m. as workers repaired the sinkhole.
On Friday afternoon, Chief Price went to the sinkhole to assess the damage. According to officials, repairs will take about two to three months. The sinkhole will be filled with earth until repairs are complete.
Until then, traffic will be diverted through Malloy Bridge Circle and barricades will be in place at Cook Road and Malloy Bridge Circle Road.
