Crossroads Diner, a restaurant that has been selling pancakes and eggs in Richardson and Far North Dallas for nearly a decade, is scheduled to reopen in Plano in September 2024.
The restaurant, run by chef-owner Tom Fleming, had been closed for four years. It was one of 18% of restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth that didn't survive the first year of the pandemic.
Fleming said in 2020 and again in an interview. dallas morning news Last week, he said he plans to reopen Crossroads. It was just a matter of when and where it would happen.
He signed a lease for Heritage Creekside, a development at Plano Parkway and Alma Road in south Plano that includes Flying Fish, Rodeo Goat and Pax & Beneficia Coffee Shop.
The restaurant is “very similar” to Crossroads of the past, the chef-owner said. Fleming plans to take home her favorite frittata with homemade chorizo and Mozzarella Co. goat cheese. Pancakes, eggs and grits are also on the menu. The chewy bread will be back for the weekend only.
During the four years that Fleming was away from Crossroads, he was a restaurant consultant and furniture maker.
“I've been in the restaurant industry, but I wasn't where I was supposed to be, at Crossroads Diner,” Fleming said.
He will probably use his carpentry skills to design and build benches for Plano's new Crossroads.
The restaurant will start serving breakfast and lunch for the time being. Dinner after all.
“I knew it would reopen at some point,” he said. “This is my job. I'm a chef and a restaurateur. All of my other work has been great and I've enjoyed it. But I like making people happy with my food.”
