After Quinn Ewers announced he would return as the Texans' quarterback for the 2024 season, fans were able to weigh in on where the Longhorns gunslinger would land in a 2025 NFL mock draft.
Shortly after the 2024 Draft was completed last month, the Associated Press projected Ewers to go No. 8 overall to the Las Vegas Raiders.
In a recent mock draft for ESPN, Jordan Reed saw an interesting landing spot in Ewers, the No. 12 overall pick from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“Yes, Pittsburgh just renovated its QB room, but Russell Wilson and Justin Fields (who declined his fifth-year option) are both on expiring contracts after this season. “While his accuracy has been inconsistent, he has all the traits you want in an NFL quarterback, and one more season in Steve Sarkisian's offense could really accelerate his development.” he said.
“This is a bit of a guess. Scouts were looking at Ewers' third-day performance in the class of 2024 before he decided to return to school. But there's potential here.”
Even better news for the Longhorns is that Ewers wasn't the first player taken off the board. Offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. was taken sixth overall by the Denver Broncos.
“Finding protection for Bo Nix is a top priority for Denver. Banks is a natural pass protector, but he has all the tools needed to be a high-end starter at the next level,” Reid said. .
The Longhorns will have 11 former players selected into the NFL in the draft, and it looks like next year will be similar.
Reid also predicted that Isiah Bond, transferred from Alabama, would be the Buffalo Bills' third Longhorn selected in only the first round at No. 27 overall.
