2024 draft picks
Guyton — Dallas has selected Guyton, a former defensive end from Oklahoma State, to strengthen its offensive line. He is ranked No. 39 on the PFF Big Board and is considered something of a project with great athletic ability. He did not allow a sack in 355 pass-blocking reps this season, but his true pass-blocking grade was only 59.0 PFF.
Kneeland — The Cowboys acquired Marshawn Kneeland from Western Michigan, regaining some of the defensive line depth they lost in free agency. He is a natural run defender and developed as a pass rusher as his career progressed. Over the past two seasons, he has posted a run defense grade of 88.0 PFF. This is the best of any FBS edge defender to have played at least his 300 run defense snaps during that span.
Beebee — The Cowboys continue to work on their offensive line, acquiring one of the best offensive linemen in college football over the past two seasons. Beebe's pass-blocking grade of 91.8 since 2021 ranks first among all FBS guards during that span, and he has allowed just two sacks in 1,206 pass-blocking snaps during that span. The question is where he will play in the NFL, but a move to center field is a possibility.
Liufo — Liufau plays with a competitive spirit and violence, which is good for dealing with contradictions. He's also a little slow processor, but if he can read and trigger, he can make a splash play. This can be seen as he has recorded 35 defensive stops between the run game and the pass game in his last two seasons. He has the potential to be a core special teams member and a rotational linebacker.
Carson — Like many players who play for head coach Dave Clawson, Carson is a physical prospect. He earned an impressive run defense grade of 83.4 in 2023, ranking 33rd among FBS cornerbacks. Carson would fit well in a cornerback room lined with playmakers like Daron Brand and Trevon Diggs. By 2023, we will be forced to complete five incomplete combustions in one interview. The Cowboys will get a projected second-round steal by selecting the Wake Forest product.
Flournois — Flournoy has been solidly productive, averaging 2.67 yards per route run over the past two seasons. His best attribute is his hands, which have dropped just 3.2% of catchable passes thrown to him since 2022.
Thomas — When you turn on the tape on Nathan Thomas, expect to see Mauller in the run game. Although he has struggled in pass protection the past two seasons, Thomas has shown off his athleticism in run concepts. His 76.1 PFF run blocking grade in 2023 ranked 18th among FBS offensive tackles.
Rogers — Rodgers did even better in 2022, earning a PFF grade of 70.9. He was better against the run than he was as a pass rusher last season, posting a run defense grade of 65.3 PFF.
Rookie to watch: T Tyler Guyton, Oklahoma State
Scouting Overview
Guyton is a rare player who excels at offensive tackle. He is a former defensive end, and he didn't start playing offensive tackle until he entered college. His immaturity is still evident even today.
His attack targets on the defender's body are inconsistent, and his hand position is inconsistent as well. This made him more of a pusher than a blocker. Still, his natural physical ability is clear.
Guyton's foot speed and stride are amazing for a player his size, allowing him to mirror without stretching too much. He can fire the ball quickly and can provide a good punch on contact.
Above average number of wins
WAA represents the number of wins a player has over the average college football player and is a metric that evaluators can use to evaluate performance.
This is a combination of how well a player performed in each aspect of their play (using PFF grades) and how valuable each aspect is to winning a soccer match. The result is a first-of-its-kind metric that enables cross-position evaluation and predicts future value at the player and team level.
How Guyton ranks on stable metrics
Guyton is a pretty big project, but he has the tools needed to be an impact player.
The Oklahoma tackle produced a 97th percentile vertical jump and an 84th percentile three-cone, giving his game a unique explosiveness.
Guyton has only allowed two sacks in his career, but he needs to become a more refined player to consistently win at the point of attack.
conclusion
Guyton is raw, but there aren't many offensive linemen with better athleticism. He has the talent to be an NFL starter, but he will need to eliminate the negatives in both the run game and the passing game to succeed at the next level.
