The NBA appears ready to address unwanted player-fan interactions this postseason.
Immediately after Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals between the Mavericks and the Thunder, Juan Guerra II took to Twitter/X to air his frustrations. An Oklahoma City fan apparently exchanged words with Kyrie Irving during the game, which led to him receiving a warning from the NBA and nearly being ejected.
Guerra posted two photos of the league's notice on his social media. Also includes a red warning card.
The card read: “Your comments, gestures, and/or actions directed toward players, coaches, game officials, arena staff, and/or spectators violate the NBA Fan Code of Conduct. This is your first and only warning. If you continue to violate the NBA Fan Code of Conduct after receiving this warning, you will be immediately ejected from the arena without refund. ”
according to Oklahoman, Guerra has played in nearly every Thunder game in Oklahoma City. The only time he missed a game was during the 2020-21 season, when few fans were allowed in arenas due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“2 minutes into the game and @KyrieIrving’s soft self already gave me this one because I threw the ball to the referee who went the other way and he threw it back to me. We are already in his skin.” Guerra wrote on social media.
Irving and the Mavericks will look to even the series in Game 2 in Oklahoma City on Thursday at 8:30 p.m.
