update: ESPN’s Dave McMenamin Added more details.
From McMenamin: “Umpire Tony Brothers announced that the Mavs would not be called for a timeout during the stoppage when Derek Lively went down “due to concussion protocol.” This announcement makes it unlikely Lively will return for Game 3.”
On Sunday night, the Dallas Mavericks will face the Minnesota Timberwolves (at home) in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.
During the game, Derek Lively II was injured and needed help to the locker room.
He finished with six points, two rebounds, two assists and one block in his first nine minutes on the court, shooting 3-for-3 from the field.
Via Tim McMahon of ESPN“The star player of the series, Mavs rookie center Derek Lively II, was hit in the head by an inadvertent knee from Karl-Anthony Towns. Lively was down for several minutes before staggering off the court with Markieff Morris in his arms.”
Lively is the 12th pick in the 2023 NBA Draft and has been one of the most productive rookies.
He finished the regular season with averages of 8.8 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.4 blocks while shooting 74.7% from the field in 55 games.
The Mavericks have won the first two games of the series at Target Center and hold a 2-0 lead over the Timberwolves.
The team that wins this series will advance to the NBA Finals to face either the Boston Celtics or the Indiana Pacers.
