On Sunday night, the Dallas Mavericks faced off against the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals.
The Mavericks won 116-107 and took a commanding 3-0 lead in the series.
Kyrie Irving finished with 33 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal on 12-of-20 field goal attempts and 3-of-6 3-pointers in 42 minutes of playing time.
After the game, the NBA champion point guard spoke with the media and one of his comments became a hot topic.
Irving: “Ever since I was young, I’ve always felt like I was one of the best players in the world because I get to play with other great players. I don’t go for the ball, I don’t demand it. I play defense and all the other things that don’t show up on the stat sheet. That’s what I always wanted to be remembered for. Anything else people throw at my career, that’s up to them.”
Irving is in his second season with Dallas.
Although they missed out on the playoffs in 2024, the Mavs rebounded impressively and finished the season as the fifth seed in the Western Conference.
They defeated the Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
Game 4 of the series will be played Tuesday night (also in Dallas).
The team that wins this series will advance to the NBA Finals to face either the Boston Celtics or the Indiana Pacers.
