Three Dallas-Fort Worth nonprofits are among organizations across the state that have been awarded more than $319,000 in grants from the Texas Women in the Arts, a program of the arts advocacy nonprofit Texas Cultural Trust.
The DFW organizations are Bishop Arts Theatre Center and Swan Strings in Dallas, and the Thank You Darlin’ Foundation in Fort Worth.
“These grants provide significant support to the arts in Texas, ensuring children have access to the arts and a quality arts education, regardless of potential barriers,” Heidi Marquez Smith, CEO of the Texas Cultural Trust, said in a statement. “We congratulate this year’s grant recipients and thank TWA members for their unwavering and invaluable support of developing the next generation of Texas.”
Texas Women for the Arts is made up of more than 220 arts philanthropists, leaders and change-makers who raise funds with the goal of increasing access to the arts and arts education for all Texas children.
Each year, TWA members choose which arts organizations they will support with their personal funds.
TWA has donated $4.3 million since its founding
Since its founding in 2005, TWA has awarded 403 grants to arts initiatives statewide totaling more than $4.3 million, impacting approximately 3.7 million Texas children.
“Reaching children across the state with the arts is critical, as Trust research shows that engagement with the arts leads to higher test scores, school attendance and graduation rates, as well as improved mental health and healing,” Linda LaMantia, 2024 Texas Women in the Arts chair, said in a statement.
TWA said the grants will support community organizations, museums, after-school programs and summer camps, providing programming for Texas children in music, visual and performing arts, dance, creative writing and other artistic disciplines.
Grants are awarded each spring. The 2024-2025 application cycle opens October 1, 2024.
The Texas Cultural Trust is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping increase access to and awareness of the arts throughout the state.
Texas Cultural Trust programs include the Texas Arts Awards Medal, Art Can, Texas Young Masters, Texas Council of Women Artists, Partners in the Arts and Art Access.
