Texas A&M will be appearing in the College World Series final for the first time in the school’s history, facing top-seeded Tennessee (58-12) in a best-of-three championship series starting Saturday.
This matchup marks the second consecutive all-SEC final and the third in the last four years.
It’s no surprise that Texas A&M’s roster is heavily populated with players from Texas high schools, most of whom are from the Dallas or Houston area.
Here are some former DFW high school stars who will be on the Texas A&M University World Series roster:
Caden Sorrell
OF, Flower Mound Marcus
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound freshman has been a steady contributor for the Aggies all season, batting .266 with 40 RBI, 11 home runs and 24 walks.
In his senior season at Flower Mound, Marcus Sorrell posted a .347 batting average as a fielder with seven home runs, 29 RBIs, 28 runs scored, a 1.05 ERA and 64 strikeouts in 46.2 innings pitched. Dallas Morning News 2023.
Fun fact: His grandfathers, Billy Sorrell and Tom Griffin, both played in the MLB.
Ryan Prager
LHP, Hillcrest
Prager, a redshirt sophomore, has been outstanding on the mound for Texas A&M this season, posting a 9-1 record with a 2.88 ERA and 118 strikeouts. In his last start, Prager held Kentucky hitless through seven innings as the Aggies won, 5-1.
As a freshman at A&M, Prager started nine of 10 games, striking out 37 and posting a 5.02 ERA. He received a medical redshirt in 2023.
At Hillcrest, Prager went 9-2 with a 0.44 ERA, 136 strikeouts and just six walks in 63.0 innings during his senior season in 2021. news In 2021.
Zack Fry
Keller Timber Creek
The 6-foot-1, 205-pound freshman was a standout player at Keller Timber Creek High School, posting a 2.43 ERA with 60 strikeouts in 48 innings during his senior season in 2023.
