Restaurateur Jay Kahn has opened his fifth concept, Mass Street Tacos, in Dallas’ West End Historic District.
The taco shop, located at 1722 N. Market St., is a counter-service-style taqueria with indoor counter seating and a patio. The kitchen is led by executive chef Juan Sanchez, who has worked with Khan for more than 20 years and also oversees Khan’s steakhouse concept, The Liam’s Steakhouse.
Mass Street Tacos officially opened on June 14 and is getting a lot of attention as it settles into its new location. The restaurant will replace West End Burger Bar, which closed in 2022.
Mass Street serves breakfast tacos all day long, as well as other taco classics like al pastor, barbacoa, and quesabirria. In addition to tacos, the restaurant also serves quesadillas, sopas, tortas, burritos, and flautas. All meats are smoked or marinated in-house.
Khan has been investing in the West End neighborhood since 2004, when he opened RJ Mexican Cuisine, which still operates today. In the past two decades, he’s opened 3Eleven Kitchen and Cocktails, Chet’s Dallas and, most recently, Liam’s. All five of his restaurants are within a block of each other.
Kahn said he continues to invest in this area of downtown because of its proximity to world-class museums and cultural institutions, including the Dallas World Aquarium, the Sixth Floor Museum and the Dallas Museum of Art. The West End is a unique neighborhood with a mix of historic architecture and modern businesses, and supporters are pushing for new investment in retail and parks.
“The area’s rich history of museums and attractions makes it the perfect place for conventioneers and locals to gather,” he said in a statement. “Adding Mass Street Tacos to our portfolio is a further tribute to our family, traditions and pursuit of culinary excellence.”
