Jan. 23 – Potential second-round center option?
As the Dallas Cowboys draft process gets into full swing, fans are also starting to pin Cowboys prospects in fan mock drafts on social media. One of the most popular players among Cowboys fans is Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson, who was selected in the second round with the 56th overall pick.
Powers-Johnson, who won the Rimington Trophy as the nation's best center in 2023, allowed just one pressure and zero sacks in 829 snaps at center last season for the Ducks. Prior to 2023, the Utah native was logging snaps at four of the five offensive line positions: LG, C, RG, and RT.
The second half of the second round is expected to be in late January, and Powers-Johnson will have an opportunity to increase his stock at the Senior Bowl in Mobile next week and the combine in late February. Considering the selection of centers in the draft and how far teams can go in the second or late first round to acquire a center, taking Powers-Johnson at No. 56 is extremely valuable at this point. I think that's the case.
Powers-Johnson could be an option to add depth to the interior of the offensive line, whether or not the Cowboys decide to move Tyler Biadasz, who is about to hit free agency, this offseason. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to have former Oregon teammate TJ Bass by his side, as Bass was the lone bright spot in the Cowboys' 2023 rookie class. – Harris
