Dan Quinn appears to be the top candidate for the final two teams searching for a head coach.
And there were two.
Thursday afternoon got pretty interesting as the Atlanta Falcons finally chose a new head coach, but despite all the rumors and speculation, it wasn't the legendary Bill Belichick. Atlanta has decided to hire Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris.
When the offseason cycle began, eight NFL teams, officially a quarter of the league, were looking for a new skipper to run their programs. Six of them filled that post with little sleep left before Sunday's conference championship.
Currently, there are still two teams remaining: the Washington Commanders and the Seattle Seahawks. Once the former selects a head coach, we will officially know all of the new head coaches Dallas will face in 2024 (see the list of opponents here). So far, we know the Cowboys will travel to play both Canales' Panthers and Morris' Falcons.
But Dallas will come. and The team is expected to have a new head coach next season, but the managers are still searching for one. Like Seattle (which sounds weird to say), Washington is also important in relation to the Cowboys' staff. That's because they are requesting a second interview with defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Seattle held a second interview with him on Thursday.
Given that both the manager and the Seahawks wanted to talk to Quinn again, it's no surprise that both teams are seriously considering him as their next head coach. There are all sorts of options on the table, including Bobby Slowik, Mike Vrabel, and Ben Johnson (the Detroit Lions player is obviously still playing), but obviously Quinn has a lot of history, especially with Seattle. There is. At the very least, it seems like you have a good chance of getting one of these jobs. We probably won't know until next week.
Assuming that happens, the Cowboys clearly need a defensive coordinator role and could do so through an internal promotion. With Mike McCarthy entering the final year of his contract in 2024, the Cowboys' staff is generally in a state of uncertainty, with many unknowns surrounding everyone involved and their futures.
McCarthy will likely be out in 2025 and Dan Quinn will be elsewhere. If that happens, it's clear that Quinn won't be coaching the Cowboys, as many once thought he would be. However, given that Bill Belichick likely won't be coaching his team this season and likely wants to continue chasing Don Shula's all-time wins record, between now and this year, You can bet that Dallas will connect with him multiple times in between. If so, he will find a new home.
Time keeps moving forward and we just have to wait and see what happens to Dan Quinn.
