Dallas — All of Dallas is preparing for the biggest New Year's Eve yet.
On Friday, Reunion Tower spent the day getting ready for its annual illuminations, fireworks and drone show.
Dusty Grosskreutz, president of Reunion Tower, said some of the shows have doubled in size this year.
“We've got almost everything loaded up, and on Sunday we'll have fireworks off on the geodeck. The fireworks will go off at the end. We'll put everything together and check the time code,” Grosskreutz said.
“This year, there will be over 15,000 pounds of fireworks set off from every floor of Reunion Tower. We also have 500 drones on hand.”
It's said to be a show for the entire city, but if you can see Reunion Tower, you'll definitely see the show.
On the other hand, if you don't see fireworks, there's a good chance you're out on the town. DART knows that, which is why, along with Trinity Railway Express, we're offering free rides from 6pm on New Year's Eve with safety as our top priority.
“This is exciting for DART and North Texas. We want to be part of the solution. Get out and have fun and have fun. Spend time with your friends and family. But… Don’t forget about your own safety, we’re going to be there.” [offering rides] For you,” said Gordon Shuttles of DART.
Deep Ellum was quiet Friday, but barricades lined the streets and are expected to go up this weekend. Meanwhile, bars and restaurants on Cedar Springs Road in Oak Lawn are preparing in their own way.
“I'm just…expecting a happy mess!” said Matthew Ryan, manager of Hamburger Mary's Dallas.
The venue says it expects around 400 people to attend this weekend, which means more food and drink orders.
“Alcohol orders have increased about 150% just to prepare for that,” Ryan said. “Everyone loves champagne at midnight, so you have to make sure you have enough!”
But whatever you do on New Year's Eve, the message from everyone is to do it safely.
