A real estate agent representing the former Hoffman Schultes Bakery building said there is “a lot of interest” in the West Fifth Street property.
John Fisher of RE/MAX Results in Chesterfield said Tuesday that the property, which has housed a bakery for more than 80 years, has attracted many potential buyers. It was most recently owned by the Hoffman family of companies, which acquired it in June 2022.
“I'm very interested in this movie. Nothing is set in stone, but I've been doing some screenings for the same people,” Fisher said.
The real estate agent said it remains to be seen whether the building will remain a bakery after purchase. He added that plans for the property vary depending on the prospective buyer.
“It's both sides, because some people took all the ingredients out of the bakery, took out all the contents, and tried to open it up for something else. Some people planned to use it as a bakery,” Fisher said. he said.
The bakery, originally called Schulte's and founded by Evelyn Schulte and Leo Schulte in 1959, closed on Oct. 7 on Fifth Avenue. Don Simon, CEO of Hoffman's Missouri operations, told The Missourian at the time that the building was outdated and difficult to modernize. Simon and bakery staff said the famous bakery will reopen in a new location.
The bakery announced its closure on social media on October 6, saying, “This is not goodbye!” We will be temporarily closed. ”
There have been no updates on social media since then. Simon did not respond to The Missoulian's request for comment.
Fisher said he believes the Hoffman family company has already acquired another bakery, but declined to provide details such as name, schedule or location. He emphasized that he was solely responsible for the sale of Schulte. He said only that the owner was removing property from the site for use elsewhere.
“They are currently getting some of their baking materials from Schulte and bringing them there to use,” he said.
There has been no official statement from Entrepreneur Hoffman regarding the purchase of the new bakery.
