Linda L. Book, 77, of Rehoboth Beach went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 25, 2024.
Born on November 22, 1946 in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Linda and her family spent her childhood living in Glenmore, Pa., and Malvern, Pa. In the summer, Linda and her family regularly vacationed at Delaware Beach. In the summer of 1964, while vacationing in Rehoboth Beach, she met a tall, dark and handsome stranger at the Pavilion on Her Avenue in Wilmington and Her Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach. After several years of dating, hitchhiking hundreds of miles and driving back and forth to see Linda in her car, her husband Robert (Bob) Book decided it was more practical to marry her. The two decided to get married in the summer of 1966.
Shortly after marrying and settling in Rehoboth Beach, Linda worked several jobs around town until the birth of her son, Robert (Rob) Book II. After she supported her family in her home for several years and helped Bob with the bookkeeping for his painting business, Linda accepted a position as secretary at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she conducted services in Rehoboth Beach for several years. Some of Rob's fondest memories with his mother include the days when he would go to work with his mother and run around the church, finding all the hiding places and driving Pastor John Dean crazy.
In the mid-1980s, after several long hours of study, Linda earned her real estate agent's license and established a strong reputation in the real estate sales field working with hundreds of clients at Pauline Porter Real Estate and O'Connor Piper & Flynn Real Estate. I made many friends. Vernon Realty, and finally his Coldwell Banker in Rehoboth Beach. In 2021, she decided to retire from full-time sales, bringing an end to her highly successful career spanning over 35 years.
Linda will be fondly remembered as a loving mother, doting grandmother and wonderful friend to all who met her. Linda enjoyed vacationing all over the country and spending time at her home in Florida, but over the years she served on numerous committees at Westminster Presbyterian Church and in various ministries around Rehoboth Beach, including the Rehoboth Art Her League. I also enjoyed serving in clubs.
Linda is survived by her son, Rob Book and his wife, Carla of Milford; and her two granddaughters, Gabrielle and Camille.
Linda is now reunited in death with the love of her life, Bob, to whom she was married for 54 years. her mother and father, Gertrude and Roland Hannum of Kennett Square, Pa.; her brother, Gary Hannum of Glenmore, Pa.; She visited her many uncles, aunts and cousins over the years.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Cool Springs Presbyterian Cemetery, 28843 Log Cabin Hill Road, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please remember Linda by making a donation in her name to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
