A soldier from North Texas was found dead in a home near Fort Campbell, Tennessee, on Saturday, and authorities are investigating the incident as a homicide.
The Clarksville Police Department said in a social media post that they responded to an emergency call in the 900 block of Tiny Town Road around 8:30 p.m. Officers found a woman’s body inside the home and detectives from the department’s Special Homicide Unit responded to the scene, according to a release from the department.
Authorities have ruled her death a homicide and are investigating, the post said. On Tuesday, law enforcement officials identified the woman as 23-year-old Katia Duenas Aguilar, a soldier stationed at Fort Campbell, about five miles northwest of where police responded to the scene.
Duenas Aguilar, a Mesquite native, was assigned to serve as part of the Army’s 101st Airborne Division’s combat aviation brigade, division officials said in a news release Tuesday. The 101st Airborne Division is the Army department’s only aviation assault division, according to the Army.
“We are shocked by the death of Pvt. Duenas Aguilar,” Lt. Col. Tony Hofler, a spokesman for the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell, said in a statement. “At this time, we continue to work with the Army and local investigators on this matter.”
The Texas native was remembered in social media posts as a kind person and a good friend.
Duenas Aguilar enlisted in the Army in 2018 as an information technology specialist. He completed basic training at Fort Eisenhower in Georgia the following year and was assigned to Fort Campbell, located just north of the Kentucky-Tennessee border.
According to the 101st Airborne Division, her awards and commendations include two Army Achievement Medals, one Army Good Conduct Medal, one National Defense Service Medal, one War on Terrorism Service Medal and one Army Service Ribbon.
