Tornado watches and severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for parts of North Texas, including Dallas-Fort Worth, on Friday, with more severe storms expected throughout the weekend.
A tornado watch will remain in place until 6 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
Potential tornadoes have been seen in three areas south of Dallas-Fort Worth, in Navarro and McLennan counties, and the National Weather Service is providing advance confirmation through photos and video.
It is still unclear whether multiple tornadoes occurred in these areas, and additional weather events may have occurred in north and central Texas. NWS meteorologist Monique Sellers said the weather service needs to assess the damage.
A severe thunderstorm warning that brought the threat of large hail and winds of up to 105 mph expired at 1 p.m.
“Please have multiple ways to receive warnings and be prepared to evacuate if a warning is issued in your area,” the Japan Meteorological Bureau said.
The Bureau of Meteorology said at least two more severe storms are possible throughout the weekend, with the first period from Saturday afternoon to early Sunday morning, and the second period from Sunday afternoon to Sunday evening. .
The greatest chance of severe weather will occur late Saturday night into Sunday morning.
In addition to the lingering threat of hail and wind damage, the risk of flash flooding increases west of Interstate 35 Saturday night and then increases again across East Texas into Sunday, the weather service said.
Dallas-Fort Worth is expected to receive about 3 inches of rain between Friday and Monday. About 10% of the area will see 4 to 6 inches of precipitation.
The Japan Meteorological Bureau says, “Never drive into a body of water whose depth is unknown.'' “Be especially careful at intersections with low water levels and areas with poor drainage, such as construction zones.”
The Bureau of Meteorology says the chance of rain on and off will continue until Wednesday. Storms are possible each afternoon, but the threat of strong to severe storms is low.
