In Texas, a solar eclipse may have been overshadowed by a UFO flying over Arlington.
The footage showed the sky darkening as the moon passed in front of the sun, but also showed the shadow of a long, slender object poking through the clouds.
The video has gone viral on social media, with some claiming it was a close encounter of the third kind, or an encounter with a dragon.
However, many other users came forward with potentially more reasonable explanations. It was the shadow of a high-altitude airplane.
Texas was considered a “hotspot” on the path of the total solar eclipse, which started in the Lone Star State and extended to Maine.
Hundreds of thousands of people flocked to Texas as the eclipse was predicted to be visible for 3 minutes and 51 seconds.
And many of these visitors have shared photos and footage of celestial events, with one capturing something they claim is out of this world.
The footage shows glowing clouds hanging in the dark sky as the object appears to be swimming.
“What's that?” I heard several people say, followed by a loud voice saying, “Alien.”
“There's something flying in the sky,” another audience member can be heard saying.
The surrounding crowd appeared confused by what they had witnessed, as did many social media users.
The object appeared to be moving back and forth in the area of the sky where the sun and moon meet.
Comments on the video shared on X suspected the object was a helicopter due to the speed of its appearance.
“It's literally the shadow of a helicopter coming through the clouds,” one user posted. “I've seen this a few times on airplanes.”
But “helicopters don't move that fast,” said an Arizona man who claimed to live near Luke Air Force Base.
Others suggested that the shadow was from an airplane.
“When I saw it, I thought it was the shadow of a plane. Not that it could be the shadow of a UFO, but probably not as fun,” another user shared.
One X user posted that it was “obviously a plane,” noting that the outline of an engine could be seen in the video.
Another person shared: “Shadows in the clouds from a high-altitude plane.” I've seen this many times as an aviation observer. ”
They went on to explain that the shadow disappeared when the plane moved into a part of the sky without clouds, and that the shadow appeared to be about the same size as the plane.
An X user says “Video” [was] Created for entertainment clicks.
However, eclipse spectators spotted another plane flying across the event in McKinney, about 80 miles from Arlington.
