PLAINVILLE, Conn. — Plainville's famous shopping plaza is about to fill a big hole as an international grocery chain moves into town.
An Aldi supermarket is planned for the Connecticut Commons Plaza at 282 New Britain Avenue in Plainville. There are currently 31 of his Aldi locations in Connecticut.

The store was announced earlier this month by the real estate brokerage involved in the deal, Fairfield-based True Commercial Real Estate LLC.
True said the store is expected to be 21,070 square feet and the deal was finalized by principals Tyler Lyman and Jason Wuczyski.
Lyman said in a statement that the location is ideal for the area due to its proximity to major highways in the area.
“Connecticut Commons is a regional hub that draws customers from a wide area because of its proximity to Interstate 84,” Lyman said.
“One of the obvious missing pieces was the fact that there was no grocery store in this project, and we prioritized that, so we were excited to add ALDI to our tenant mix. I am.”
Just off Interstate 84, Plainville is surrounded by Farmington, Southington, Bristol, and New Britain.
ALDI was represented by Tim McNamara and Kevin Daly of Cushman & Wakefield, and Tyler Lyman and Jason Wuczyski represented the landlord, Site Centers.
According to True officials, True brokered 13 deals with Cytocenter.
The site has been vacant since AC Moore's craft retail store closed in 2019.
The project is currently before the town's Land Use Commission for final approval before the store can be built and opened.
Aldi is based in Essen, Germany, and has seen significant growth in the U.S. and Connecticut in recent years.
The store offers unbranded and branded groceries at deep discounts, making it popular with people on a budget.
