strengths and weaknesses
Lack of experience has been a consistent concern for Mims, who came out of Georgia after starting just eight games, and although he didn't play in elite competition at Georgia's 2A level in high school, he His size and workload are yes, but limited – indicating an elite tackle who can be both a power-up and a speedy pass rusher. His hand placement and punches are some of the fiercer you'll see in the draft with 11 1/4-inch hands and 36 1/8-inch arms. He has struggled with his pass rush stunts, but his more experience and coaching will only help hone his top talent in this year's draft.
where he is projected
Mims' lack of experience has various scouts having mixed feelings as he could go anywhere from the 12th pick to the late first round. Mims, a talented class at the tackle position, has a limited workload compared to other first-round options, so he could be lost in the shuffle and slot in at No. 24 for the Cowboys. Either way, Mims is a first-round talent who should be able to come off the board and move on after the first day.
How he helped the Cowboys
Mims' experience at Georgia was entirely at the right tackle position, but he could also move to the left side and use his athleticism to protect the blind side. Tyron Smith's future in Dallas still hangs in the balance, and Mims could be an opening day starter and help protect Dak Prescott at left tackle in his first year. His size and strength would be a healthy compliment to what Tyler Smith brings to the left side of the offensive line and would be a smooth transition from the team moving Tyron Smith on the left side.
