Amazon(NASDAQ:AMZN) announced Wednesday that it has invested an additional $2.75 billion in generative artificial intelligence startup Anthropic, bringing its total investment in the company to $4 billion.

Anthropic is the maker of Claude, a generative AI A chatbot that competes with OpenAI's ChatGPT. In the case of Amazon (AMZN), this is the company's largest outside investment after its $1.3 billion investment in EV maker Rivian (Riven).
“Amazon and Anthropic are just beginning our work together to bring cutting-edge generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) technology to customers around the world,” Amazon said in a statement. “As part of our strategic collaboration agreement, we and Anthropic announced that Anthropic is using Amazon Web Services as its primary cloud provider for mission-critical workloads such as safety research and future foundation model development. did.”
The investment will give Amazon (AMZN) a minority stake in Anthropic, but no board seat. According to CNBC, Anthropic's final valuation was his $18.4 billion.
Amazon made a $1.25 billion investment in Anthropic in September, with media reports at the time saying it could invest up to $4 billion in the San Francisco-based AI startup.
Google (GOOG) (GOOGL) and Salesforce (CRM) are also backers of Anthropic.
