As Kayla and Bethany discovered, the 50s/60s aesthetic of the “Fri(end)s” video plays into the track's retro groove and melody. Visually, it depicts the dissonance between bitter loneliness and absolute lovesickness. The film depicts the experience of not having love when it's all around you, while also reflecting on what it's like to be so happily in love that you don't care about other people's problems. I am.
The song has a theme of desire, with lyrics like, “I've fallen deep into my emotions/When should I be in your bed?” It describes the feeling of wanting to go to the next level with someone but not knowing how or being able to do it.
