The elimination of the 6 percent commission paid to Realtors during a home transaction isn’t expected to have a big impact in Lebanon County, according to one local real estate agent. John Tice, a Hershey-based Howard Hanna sales manager and associate broker, believes there will be few substantive changes once the dust settles on a $418 million nationwide class-action lawsuit against the National Association of Realtors. “I don’t see it having the impact of driving down (home) prices like they’re saying on ‘The Today Show,’” said Tice, who sells homes in Lebanon County and has been a real estate agent…

Game 4 was arguably the Colorado Avalanche's worst game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Dallas Stars look to be riding high heading into Game 5 and have a chance to advance to the Western Conference Finals in front of their home crowd. The Stars have looked unstoppable in this series since losing Game 1, giving up four consecutive points. Granted, part of the great performance in Game 4 had to do with the Avalanche not playing their best after learning of Valeri Nichushkin's six-month suspension, but that doesn't mean they haven't played their best thus far. It doesn't take away…
Large cities such as San Antonio and Philadelphia are debating whether to ban horse-drawn carriages, and those discussions have reached Dallas City Hall.If you live or work in the downtown Dallas area, you’ve probably seen horse-drawn carriages cruising the streets, carrying couples or groups of tourists. But the industry is not booming. In the city, North Star Carriage is the only licensed operator with five carriage permits, and has been the only one for many years.A City Council committee recently recommended that Dallas ban horse-drawn carriages, and if the full Dallas City Council is going to move forward with the…
Galveston Bridge partially collapses after being struck by barge, spilling oil into water
GALVESTON — A barge crashed into a bridge pillar in Galveston on Wednesday, spilling oil into surrounding waters and closing the only road to a small university island, authorities said. There were no immediate reports of injuries, but one person on the barge was knocked overboard and quickly rescued, authorities said. The bridge leading to Pelican Island north of Galveston was struck about 9:50 a.m. when a tugboat backing up from Texas International Terminal, which operates a fuel storage facility next to the bridge, lost control of two barges it was pushing and was struck by the barges, said David Flores,…

Demara Morrow is the chief financial officer of a small Dallas woodworking company that manufactures and installs cabinets for customers throughout the metropolitan area. To be profitable, the company needs reliable roads with predictable travel times.Because tolls are more predictable for projects along the Dallas North Tollway, Morrow said toll costs were built into the project, “because we knew we were going to have to go through the toll road to get there.”The situation is different on toll roads that use dynamic pricing, a system in which drivers must pay extra to travel in the toll lanes when the free…
DPS and university leaders update Texas Senate on response to protests – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
A special Texas Senate subcommittee on Tuesday morning heard details of police responses to pro-Palestinian demonstrators on multiple state campuses. The purpose of the interim committee is to gather information and public testimony in order to change laws and policies before Congress in January. Tensions were high on college campuses in late spring. Police and DPS officers made arrests at the University of Texas at Austin and Dallas in late April, but not at similar protests at the University of North Texas and the University of San Antonio. On April 30th, a large number of students walked out of class…
ARLINGTON — The Rangers handed out sleek, glittery World Series replica rings to fans before Tuesday night's game against Cleveland. And as society is, there was already an active resale market online at the time.In other words, after Jack Leiter made his home debut.Perhaps one day there might be a memorabilia market for tickets to Leiter's debut at Globe Life Field, as if they were still in print. But for now, the only ticket to talk about is probably a one-way job back to Triple-A Round Rock for further refinement. The Rangers have no other choice. His three MLB starts…
