Every other week, two students sit in a recording booth at Moody Memorial Library and prepare a podcast. Although each episode takes time and effort to create, both students have a passion for all things business and are determined to connect with business school.
David Jabour, a third-year student from Austin, and Benj Nopper, a fourth-year student from Lucas, are the two students who created the Bears of Business podcast. Although this podcast has only been around for a few months, it has already become popular among students at Hankammer's School of Business.
Jabour said what started as an Instagram page has now branched out into another way to connect business school students.
“[The Bears of Business Podcast] This is an extension of our Instagram page, which is a student-run Instagram page where we post informative videos, we post funny videos, we post memes, we share stories with professors. We also post interviews,” Jabur said. “It really emphasizes student life.”
But Jabour and Nopper wanted more students to participate.
“The goal behind the podcast is to expand our media presence so that people can listen and stay informed about business school, whether they're doing laundry or driving to work. ,” Knopper said.
Both our Instagram page and podcast are dedicated to sharing information and passion for business school.
“Benji and I both have a real passion for business school,” Jabour said. “We love this place and have so much fun. Our main goal behind our Instagram page is to share the excitement, passion and happiness we have within the Business School Our ultimate goal is to make sure that every day when a student walks in, no matter who they are, they can look forward to attending business school just a little bit more.”
Knopper said the podcast is “just for fun.”
“Of course, as a business student, you want to work professionally, but you also want to have a brand and be memorable,” Knopper said. “So, that’s what we’re trying to do and give business school students almost a voice for them.”
But Jabour said the podcast is aimed at different groups within the business school, including prospective students.
“Another audience we really want to reach on Instagram and on our podcast is prospective students,” Jabour said. “[They can] Get more information about what it's really like to be a business student at Baylor. You can see the fun side on my Instagram page, and I can see both the serious and fun sides on my podcast. ”
Outreach through their Instagram page has grown significantly, with over 1,000 people following and keeping up with Jabour and Nopper.
“I have 1,600 followers on Instagram,” Jabour said. “Some of them may have already graduated. So I would estimate that a third of his business school students are following us now.”
Knopper and Jabour said they have about 50 listeners per episode. He said they are looking to expand their reach through branding to provide an even greater presence for members of the business community to enjoy.
“The podcast is kind of part of a larger department where we represent Baylor students through social media,” Knopper said. “So we started Instagram. Now we're trying to expand that, but we can also add more through Spotify and Apple Podcasts, which is really great. So Bears of Business is a big focus for us and we hope the podcast will add to that.”
