Dallas – President Joe Biden plans to attend church service in Dallas, where he was a longtime congressman eddie bernice johnsonHe died on December 31, according to the White House.
Johnson, also known as EBJ, was a pioneering politician who represented the Dallas area for decades. She was the first nurse to be elected not only to Congress, but also to the Texas House of Representatives in 1972 and the Texas State Senate in 1986.
EBJ's wake will be held Monday night at Concord Church, followed by his funeral on Tuesday.
One of her proudest accomplishments is helping to make both Arlington Tech and Dallas Tech into premier research facilities.
She was recognized for her advocacy for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education, especially for women and girls.
President Joe Biden said, “Eddie Bernice Johnson was a dedicated nurse and state legislator who served for many years with immense courage and dedication to the promise of America. “He had an unwavering dedication to his people.” “She and I worked together throughout my 30 years in Congress, and I have always been grateful for her friendship and partnership…Throughout her life and as former chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, she was an icon and a leader, and her legacy of resilience and purpose will live on through generations of public servants.”
Vice President Kamala Harris also served in Congress with EBJ.

Johnson's family said they plan to sue Baylor Scott & White Health. It was claimed that negligent care at the hospital's rehabilitation center led to her death.
