We love up-and-coming artists, especially those who aren't afraid to stand up for themselves. That's where Amber Akhtar comes in! She has written a new short story called “Cycle” which has received rave reviews.
cycle ” is a short film written by Amber Akhtar, a 22-year-old filmmaker who grew up in Michigan. She just completed her BA in Dramatic Writing with a minor in Producing from NYU Tisch College. During her time at New York University, she wrote her two features and many short films, and worked on a thesis film that was selected for Tribeca 2022. She has interned at companies such as Gotham Film and Television, Cinetic Media, and Producers' Guild.
When asked what motivated her to write this film, Amber said, “The Cycle touches on issues of reproductive rights, sexual assault, intergenerational trauma, and substance abuse. It explores the subject of shame and women's struggle to be truly seen and heard. This article will help you understand that it's okay to ask for help, and that women are encouraged when they're at their most vulnerable. I hope it's a reminder that you're not alone. This is a lesson I'm also learning and will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
