The Dallas Mavericks are one win away from reaching the NBA Finals, which should further silence critics who loudly claim that the star duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving doesn’t work. Doncic and Irving didn’t work together right away and went through some growing pains last season, but they have been an unstoppable duo in this postseason.
NBA legend and former Denver Nuggets star Carmelo Anthony said on a recent episode of his podcast, “7PM in Brooklyn,” that Doncic and Irving are one of the greatest duos of all time.
“Great backcourt,” Anthony said. “How do you defend them? [them]? You can’t stop that. You can try… and you can’t stop Kyrie, because you don’t know how to stop him. He scores on so many levels that you can’t say, ‘Okay, if he scores here, we’re going to focus and defend him. We’re going to put this guy in. We’re going to defend him with a double team.’ He gives the ball to Luka, he comes off a screen and keeps moving… they’re one of the greatest one-two punches in the history of the game.”
Dallas still needs one more win before they can clinch a spot in the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, but they’ve already come much further than many expected.
