Caterpillar plans to expand its footprint in the region after relocating its headquarters from Deerfield, Illinois to Dallas-Fort Worth in 2022.
The publicly listed industrial company, whose portfolio of brands includes Cat and Hindustan, confirmed on Wednesday that it plans to expand its office in Williams Square. The company has space in the complex's west tower at 5205 N. O'Connor Blvd. in Irving, near the John W. Carpenter Freeway.
According to documents filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs under the name “Project Mustang,” architecture and design firm Kogan will be responsible for renovating the interior of the building's sixth and seventh floors, as well as renovating some floors. It was revealed. Construction cost for the approximately 50,000 square foot site is expected to be $10 million.
Construction on the Las Colinas space is expected to begin this week, with delivery scheduled for May 2025, according to the filing.
The four-building, 1.4 million-square-foot complex that makes up Williams Square is owned by a partnership of Apollo Global, Vanderbilt Office Properties, and Hillwood Urban.
Caterpillar, which has been based in Texas since the 1960s, had 120 employees in Irving when the Fortune 500 company's headquarters move was first announced in 2022.
At the time, a company spokesperson said the 230 employees from the Illinois office would eventually move to Irving, adding that the Irving workforce would depend on future business needs.
The company first established a presence in Williams Square when it consolidated its power division into the region, moving functions and hundreds of jobs previously located in California, Arizona and Indiana to Texas. Several floors were demolished at the time.
The move to Las Colinas marks the 24th Fortune 500 corporate headquarters in Washington, Florida.
Caterpillar portfolio companies manufacture products such as bulldozers, backhoe loaders, pipelayers and excavators.
The company will announce its first quarter results on April 25th.
