Walmart will be the centerpiece of a new development in one of Dallas-Fort Worth's fastest growing communities.
G-Man Development has partnered with Walmart Real Estate, the City of Celina and its Economic Development Corporation on a mixed-use development that will be anchored by the retailer's first store in the city.
The upcoming Shawnee Trail development, located in the northwest quadrant of Preston Road and the Collin County Outer Loop, will feature urban housing as well as approximately 200,000 square feet of Walmart and other retail and dining options. That is scheduled.
“We are thrilled to know that Celina will be the first community to welcome this modern Walmart concept, which has been in the planning stages for several years,” said Matthew Kiran of Rex Real Estate.
Special attention was paid to incorporating green spaces, open spaces, trails, and water features throughout the 190-acre mixed-use project in Collin County.
With a village-like layout, the Shawnee Trail will incorporate materials and architecture that reflect its historic past as a means of driving longhorn cattle into Missouri. Preston Road now follows the path of the Shawnee Trail.
G-Man Development is working on the project with Nelson Partners Architects and Planners, along with KFM Engineering and Design.
Kent Steinbach and Luke Steinbach of the Steinbach Organization represented Walmart.
Thomas Glendening of Shop Companies will oversee leasing of the development site.
Shawnee Trail is the first project being developed under the Glendening 1887 brand in the Collin County city. The company will soon announce another major master-planned development in Celina.
Rex Glendening, the great-grandfather of Rex Real Estate, moved to Celina in 1887 to farm because of the company's name.
The new Walmart is part of the company's commitment to open 150 new stores across the United States over the next five years, with four new stores planned for Texas. Walmart expects to break ground on the Celina outpost in August.
Celina has seen an increase in retailers expanding into the area. San Antonio HEB recently revealed it has added a second site in the city for potential future use within Centurion American Development Group's expansive Legacy Hills master-planned development. . Tyler-based Brookshire's also recently announced a newly renovated store in Celina.
