Home sales in Chattanooga fell to their lowest level in five years last year as rising mortgage rates forced more home buyers out of the market.
However, prices for the typical home sold by Chattanooga Realtors in 2023 remained high as demand for housing continued to drive up prices while inventory levels of homes for sale on the market were historically low.
The number of homes sold in the Chattanooga area fell nearly 12.5% in 2023 from a year ago, and real estate agent-backed home sales last year were nearly 22% below 2021's sales peak.
