DALLAS – The City of Dallas will soon change how the Department of Development Services (DSD) processes commercial permits.
Starting from March 1, 2024, this strategic measure aims to streamline operations, increase efficiency and contribute to environmental sustainability.
The new paperless permit system is a testament to the City's commitment to innovation and customer service. This digital transformation not only speeds up the permitting process, but also allows DSD to focus more resources on customer service.
The main features of the paperless permitting process are:
Online Application Submission: Applicants can now seamlessly submit commercial permit applications through the City's online submission portal ProjectDox, eliminating errors caused by manually entering data through paper forms.
Electronic Plan Reviews: DSD conducts plan reviews digitally, reducing turnaround time and minimizing the environmental impact associated with the traditional paper submission review process.
Automatic notifications: Applicants receive real-time updates on permit status, ensuring transparency and keeping stakeholders informed throughout the process.
Access to digital documents: Accessing and retrieving permit-related documents has been simplified through the City's secure online platform.
“The move to paperless permitting is in line with our service-first culture,” said DSD Director Andrew Espinoza. “This is a major step forward in our commitment to serving the development community as efficiently as possible.”
To learn how to use ProjectDox, the City's online submission portal, customers can register for one of the following Building Dallas Together training sessions at the DSD Training Center located at 400 S Zang Blvd, C95, Dallas, TX 75208.

- Monday, January 22, noon to 1 p.m.
- Monday, February 13th from noon to 1:00 p.m.

“We encourage developers, contractors, and all members of the development community to embrace this progressive change and experience the benefits of a more agile and environmentally friendly permitting process,” Espinoza said.
