“We're not going to elaborate on those things in negotiations,” Jones said.
“That's obviously as we move forward. Hopefully we'll continue to make progress and continue to communicate, but we're not going to report on how things are going to go.”
Jones was able to provide some clarity after addressing how the team's future includes a starting quarterback with owner and general manager Jerry Jones at the Senior Bowl, saying the team “absolutely” did not consider Prescott's He said he wanted an extension.
“The thing we love about Dak is that he's a cowboy,” he said. “That's all we're thinking about.”
If the Cowboys can't get an extension, Jones said there are ways to adjust Prescott's 2024 cap hit to fit the roster around him, along with future extensions for CeeDee Lamb and Micah Parsons. Ta.
“Well, there are ways to adjust the cap number this year,” he said. “Obviously, between Dak and Micah and Sheedy, the salary cap is real for us in a situation where we want to sign all three of them.”
The league announced a record increase to the salary cap last week to $255.4 million, and while that could help Prescott and other players on the team get contract extensions, Jones said the rest of the league's I think the team has a similar opportunity.
“The cap bump obviously helps in several ways,” he said. “But all 32 teams have a cap increase, so no matter what situation you're dealing with, we all know what that means in terms of the cost of doing business.”
Jones declined to say whether the team will meet with representatives this week in Indianapolis or other details of negotiations over a potential extension.
