Note:
These data are obtained from the Current Population Survey (CPS), also known as the Household Survey.
The civilian labor force includes all persons in the civilian non-institutional population aged 16 and older who are classified as either employed or unemployed.
An employee is a person who, during the reference week (the week containing the 12th day of the month), (a) did any work as a paid employee, worked in his own business or profession, on his own farm, or worked 15 hours; All the people. (b) working as an unpaid worker in a business owned by a family member; It doesn't matter who is on leave, due to labor disputes, job training, or other family or personal reasons, whether they have paid time off or are looking for other work. Employed people are counted only once, even if they hold multiple jobs.
An unemployed person is defined as someone who did not have a job during the reference week, was available for work except for temporary illness, and was under special circumstances to find work at some point within the four-week period preceding the reference week. It refers to everyone who has made an effort. People who were waiting to be recalled to laid-off jobs did not have to be looking for work to be classified as unemployed.
Unemployment rate is the proportion of unemployed people in the civilian labor force [100 times (unemployed/civilian labor force)].
