After getting off to a slow start this season, the Dallas Cowboys lived up to expectations by making the playoffs as the No. 2 seed and NFC East champion. However, in the NFC Wild Card Round, the Cowboys lost to the Green Bay Packers in pretty embarrassing fashion. Sure, Dak Prescott inflated his stats against his reserves late in the game, but that in no way excuses the Cowboys' performance.
Despite the loss, Jerry Jones decided to hire Mike McCarthy in the final year of his contract rather than hire one of the available head coaching candidates like Bill Belichick, Mike Vrabel, or even Jim Harbaugh. decided to bring it back. McCarthy held his exit press conference with his players last week and then discussed his future with Jones.
“They're great guys, because what always surprises me is how strong they are,” McCarthy said. “I think every day is different, just the disappointment and the emotions and the expressiveness. It's hard every time I do it. It's very productive, but there's a lot of strength and conviction that comes from it.” I shared that conversation with my subordinates. I would like to praise you. ”
McCarthy also praised Jerry Jones' leadership, suggesting he was a “fantastic” boss. It's certainly nice to hear it from Jones' perspective, but Dallas hasn't won a Super Bowl since being in diapers. Something has to change and it starts with the players and coaching staff.
FanSided's Cody Williams talked about several Cowboys players who likely won't return in the aftermath of last week's loss to Dallas. Players like Jordan Lewis, Neville Gallimore, Dante Fowler, Jaylon Kearse and Tony Pollard are not included in this list.
The Cowboys' running game hasn't been very good this season. A lot of that can be attributed to the offensive line and Pollard. File Doodle is included on this list as the Cowboys' backfield version with an extreme makeover.
Doodle was injured late in the season, and his carries increased during Deuce Vaughn's absence. Bourne will be entering his second season in 2024, so Dallas should at least roll the dice on the Kansas State product as a backup running back. Vaughn has proven to be explosive when given the opportunity, but Dowdle can't claim that.
Bourne's season ended just before the playoffs and he was placed on injured reserve. However, he performed well enough in his rookie year to earn a bigger role in 2024. In other words, Doodle may be out of action.
