The Dallas Cowboys may sign former Super Bowl pass rusher Emmanuel Ogbah, who was released by the Miami Dolphins. According to sources, the Cowboys are being considered as one of the potential destinations for the defenseman. The Dolphins released Ogbah two years after signing him to a four-year contract worth $65 million. The release was expected after the Dolphins were dealing with salary cap issues.
However, Ogbah played a career-low 25% of defensive snaps last season under former defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. The Dolphins didn't seem to know what to do or how to get the former Super Bowl champion involved. The Cowboys have other major free agents this offseason, including Dorrance Armstrong, Dante Fowler Jr., Jonathan Hankins and Neville Gallimore. But Dallas likely has a new approach under new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer.
The first step to that new change could be bringing in an experienced player like Ogbah. Perhaps this is where Zimmer will truly give his all for next season. Ogbu began his career in Miami after winning a Super Bowl as a primary reserve with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019. The Cowboys could use him, as the Super Bowl champion knows the ins and outs of championship land.
Ogbah has recorded 42.5 sacks since joining the league as a second-round pick in 2016. He saw less playing time in Miami last season, and Dallas could be the landing spot for him. The Cowboys are expected to lose some of their front seven, so bringing in Ogbah could provide some relief.

Will he be able to adapt to Dallas' new plan?
The Cowboys are likely looking for a shake-up since former defensive coordinator Dan Quinn left to join the Washington Commanders. The Cowboys already take some pride in targeting quarterbacks, as they did last season under Coach Quinn. Adding Ogbah would strengthen Micah Parsons' reputation and attitude for chasing the ball with his personality. Dallas has always been statistically better at sacking quarterbacks.
The Cowboys have taken down quarterbacks 141 times, which is the fourth-most in the NFL. It's already a frightening sight for the Cowboys' defense, and adding Ogbah could make them a Super Bowl-worthy team. However, Ogbah has experienced several injuries during his career. He returned from triceps surgery that limited him to nine games in 2022 and played a deeper role.
With that in mind, the Cowboys could potentially acquire him on a cheaper contract. Ogbah will likely get more defensive snaps in Dallas after losing snaps to younger talents like Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips in Miami. However, Dallas also has cap issues, so it may be difficult for the team to work out an actual contract. The Cowboys still need long-term deals with Parsons, Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb.
Other potential destinations in Ogba
Even if the Cowboys can't make a deal, he has worthy suitors. He could return to the team that originally drafted him, the Cleveland Browns. Defensive end Za'Darius Smith is a free agent this offseason, so the Browns could be replacing another veteran. Jim Schwartz's defensive line is important, so adding Ogbah could be a good starting point.
Also, don't rule out a reunion with the Chiefs. Kansas City could lose Chris Jones and Rajarius Sneed due to cap issues. So adding Ogbah to a cheaper contract could add some peace of mind.
