FRISCO – We've often praised ESPN's Dan Orlovsky for his work on television when discussing serious topics…seriously. But what about when he's clearly showing off to be another “Stephen A. Skip”?
We don't admire it.
Orlovsky wants the Dallas Cowboys to part ways with Dak Prescott on “First Take,” but the reasons are as strange as the solution is ambiguous, and if Super Bowl expectations are not met. “America's Team.'' 's roster cannot 'support' those expectations.
Three issues with Orlovsky's high-profile verbal abuse…
1 – “There will be Super Bowl expectations even without Super Bowl support,” Orlovsky argues.
“Expectations” from Who? Fanbase? At this point, Cowboys Nation can say with some confidence that we don't “expect” the now-reduced 2024 Dallas roster to win a Super Bowl. I can say it.
In fact, much of the “expectation” comes from people like ESPN's Mr. Orlovsky continuing to say things like this, fanning the fire that we all know is a few logs short.
2 – “They can't afford to hire new people,” Orlovsky says, “because Duck makes $60 million…and they have to pay CeeDee Lamb…”
error. error. And more lies.
The Cowboys can use salary cap tools to acquire NFL free agents. They choose not to do so in order to “keep the powder dry.” We've explained this concept often at CowboysSI.com. (See “Blow It Up!” Reinventing 2025).
Dak is not currently “earning $60 million” in 2024.
And while they “need to pay Lamb,” once they do, the cap won't balloon, and the new contract will actually reduce Lamb's 2024 cap impact by up to $10 million.
3 – The Cowboys should “move on” ...
to whom? What? how? As we often say in this field, “Show me your work.” Does Orlovsky want to trade Prescott? Fire him? Orlovsky doesn't want that kind of “transfer” nonsense. Do we not understand the economic implications?
Doesn't he know that if Dak were cut or traded today, the cap impact in 2024 would only be $55 million?
Didn't he also consider the challenge of finding a better QB than Prescott to replace him (is that what “moving on” means?)
While it's accurate to report that Dallas has created issues here with the team and QB, it may only be “nearly good”…creating a crossroads situation for everyone involved. “Rebuild in 2025”? It's a consideration of finances and stupidity.
“Let's stay away from Duck” with such a lack of logic? That's just stupidity.
