Wednesday morning news about the Dallas Cowboys.
Cowboys' 2024 free agent big board, top players targeted – Christopher Knox, Bleacher Report
The Dallas Cowboys could really improve at linebacker through free agency.
With Stephon Gilmore looming on the market, the Cowboys may consider investing in a proven young cornerback like Jaylon Johnson or Rajarius Sneed. Dallas may also look at wide receiver, as Brandin Cooks could be a cap casualty.
Releasing Cook for designation after June 1 would save $8 million in cap space.
But run defense is Dallas' biggest need, and the Cowboys are seriously lacking in depth at linebacker.
Targeting a sideline-to-sideline helper like Devin White of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could help fix the problem right away. White is coming off another strong season, recording 83 tackles, 43 solo stops, 2.5 sacks and two interceptions.
White played in just 14 games last season, but finished with over 120 tackles in each of his past three games.
Premier off-ball linebackers like White and the Baltimore Ravens' Patrick Queen don't come cheap, but they are a very important commodity that the Cowboys currently lack.
Cowboys await decision on 'highly regarded' Quinn – Patrick Walker, DallasCowboys.com
The Dan Quinn question still remains.
In the near future, Dan Quinn will make a decision about the next step in his NFL career. He currently serves as the defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys, having joined the organization in 2021 and is also completing his latest round of interviews with a potential return to the head coaching position in 2024.
The Cowboys will keep Mike McCarthy next season, so the other major shoe is held by Quinn, who is expected to make a decision sooner rather than later.
If Quinn does not accept a head coaching job this offseason, the Cowboys are expected to keep him in his current role and alongside McCarthy, who continues to praise his defensive counterpart.
“Dan is a highly valued member of our coaching staff,” McCarthy said. “We will proceed with the procedure there.”
Quinn's pending decision will have a major impact on the defensive side of the ball, especially in relation to McCarthy's plans for the assistant coaching staff under Quinn.
How the Dallas Cowboys brought light to a family of lifelong fans in their darkest moments – Jess Nevarez, Pro Football Network
During these difficult times, the Cowboys are stepping up and deserve applause.
The Cowboys organization recognized this tragedy and acted to ensure the Washington family felt love and support during this time.
The organization sent multiple bouquets of flowers to Washington Sr.'s service, and Washington Jr. had a special delivery sent to his home. The delivery was an autographed letter from Jerry Jones and a Cowboys pin.
The letter read as follows: “I learned of the recent passing of Timothy Washington as he was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. I am humbled and heartbroken to hear of Timothy's passing. The important thing is that I understand what he meant to those who loved him.”
Washington Jr. said this act of kindness from the Cowboys would have made his father happy.
“He would be so proud. He would be so proud. He loved the Cowboys and the people within the organization… Jerry Jones did this for a fan he never met. He has gone above and beyond, and I have a lot of respect for what he has done.”
49ers sign DT/OT Isaac Alarcon to reserve/future contract – David Bonilla, 49erswebzone.com
If he succeeds with the rival 49ers, Twitter could break out.
The San Francisco 49ers have signed defensive tackle and former offensive tackle Isaac Alarcon to a reserve/future contract, according to the NFL Trade Telegraph.
Reserve/Future contracts are used to secure player rights. These take effect at the start of his new league year on March 13th, and that's when a player starts counting salary against his cap.
On April 27, 2020, Alarcon was assigned to the Dallas Cowboys as part of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program. He spent the next two seasons on the team's practice squad, transitioning from offensive tackle to defensive tackle.
The Cowboys waived Alarcon as part of a 53-man roster reduction for this season. The 25-year-old has yet to appear in an NFL game.
