According to John Machota of The Athletic, the Dallas Cowboys have a fifth-year option on Micah Parsons' rookie contract. He will earn $21.3 million in 2025.
Parsons is coming off the 2023 season with perhaps the best season of his career. The 24-year-old linebacker had 64 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and 14 sacks. His production in 2023 earned him selection to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro Second Team.
The Cowboys selected Parsons with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He recorded 64 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks that season and was named Defensive Rookie of the Year. Parsons had another strong season in 2022, recording 65 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and 13.5 sacks. He was named to the All-Pro First Team in 2021 and 2022.
The Cowboys have a fifth-year option on Parsons, so the team is likely to sign him to a long-term contract soon. This week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke to reporters about the futures of Parsons, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb and quarterback Dak Prescott.
“I want to see more leaves fall,” he said, according to the Cowboys' official website. “We want to see more action. Option quarterback. I've spent my life [playing] Option quarterback. I would like to see more cards played. ”
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones also weighed in on the Cowboys' three top players. “When you’re talking about big contracts like Dak, CeeDee, Micah, those things don’t happen overnight,” he explained. “Things like that take time. The timing is based on what other teams are doing at that position.
“There's a lot of moving parts. You certainly want to get it right. …When you pay the kind of money that you ultimately have to pay to keep them, you want to know that it's being done right.” You'll want to check.”
