It's been almost a week since the Dallas Cowboys lost defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who took over as head coach of the Washington Commanders. They have been preparing to replace him ever since.
Joe Witt Jr. initially seemed the obvious choice, but he ultimately followed Quinn into the command role. Up until this point, the Cowboys had only been linked to two outside candidates, Ron Rivera and Mike Zimmer, but a new name surfaced Wednesday morning (search results can be followed here).
According to CBS Sports, the Dallas Cowboys have interviewed Rex Ryan for the role.
This is surprising to say the least. Ryan has built an NFL reputation on the defensive side of the ball during his career as head coach of the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills, but has not coached in the NFL since the 2016 season.
For most of the last decade, Ryan has shared his thoughts and opinions on the NFL as one of the television analysts through ESPN. He is a loud personality and is often in the news, but he hasn't been talked about on the actual soccer field for a long time.
