The Cowboys won 12 games in 2023…which was your favorite?
It's starting to feel like the Dallas Cowboys' season is finally winding down, which is a huge shame, but it's been like this for the better part of the last 30 years.
Looking back at the entire season, there were 12 moments of victory. The Cowboys won 12 games, marking their third straight winning streak. No one wants to hear this right now, but there's a lot of fanbases that have it worse than that.
As you can see, optimism is kind of the trend these days, and we have plenty of it. Today's prompt is a simple one that requires an optimistic streak.
What was the best win of the season for the Dallas Cowboys?
Week 1: Destruction of the New York Giants
The season got off to a strong start as the Cowboys defeated their division rival with a shutout victory in front of the whole world watching. In hindsight, 40-0 was perfect in almost every way, and this game was the start of several things that would play different types of roles throughout the season.
- Brandon Aubrey struggled with extra points (but was otherwise perfect)
- Daron Brand picks 6 interceptions
- Tony Pollard reaches the end zone
Of course, Pollard would go an incredibly long time without scoring a touchdown after this game, but how did we know that at the time?
Week 2: Continues to perform well against New York Jets
The Monday before this game, we were all waiting for Dallas to play Aaron Rodgers, but he got injured that night and no one really saw him all season. Ta. Dallas allowed a big play from backup Zach Wilson to Garrett Wilson, but otherwise was mediocre. At this point, the Cowboys thought he would be on the team with the best defense in NFL history.
Week 4: No sweat against the New England Patriots
A week after humiliating the Arizona Cardinals, the Cowboys returned home to host the Patriots and former friend Ezekiel Elliott. This wasn't a game. The Cowboys handed Bill Belichick his worst loss ever as a head coach, and the return of Daron Brand with the pick was a big reason why.
Life is good again. Explosions have become quite common.
Week 6: Survive Monday Night Football against Kellen Moore's Chargers
This game took place before the Chargers were completely defeated, and to be honest it was a really close game from start to finish. Perhaps the most infamous moment of the game was Mike McCarthy folding on a potential touchdown late in the first half.
Despite this, the Cowboys managed to survive and prove to the world that they know a thing or two when it comes to moving on from Kellen Moore. CeeDee Lamb is deeply involved and always will be.
Week 8: Easy take on the Los Angeles Rams.
In retrospect, this may (maybe?) be the most impressive win Dallas has in 2023, especially considering the form Los Angeles found in the immediate aftermath. Matthew Stafford was ultimately injured in this game, complicating what to make of it, but it was a beatdown at AT&T Stadium that continued to fuel the idea that this is inevitable in life. .
Week 10: Home Party vs. G-Men
At this point in the season, things are Really Things are starting to click for the Cowboys' offense. CeeDee Lamb was really starting to rise to superstar status thanks to the incredible amount of targets she was fed. Tommy DeVito was no match for the Cowboys as Dallas attacked their rivals quickly.
Week 11: Daron Brand's best interception against the Carolina Panthers
At this point, everyone feared that Dallas would lose a game to a far inferior opponent, opening the door for paranoia by playing the worst team in the NFL. Fortunately, the Panthers were unable to march.
What stands out in this game is Daron Brand's pick-six, which tied for the most in a season in NFL history. It was arguably the best interception of Brand's career, as he broke the ball, threw himself to catch it, and used the momentum to stand up and score.
Week 12: Thanksgiving Fun with the Washington Commanders
This might have been the Cowboys' biggest party of the season. On Thanksgiving Day, the Cowboys had a much closer game than expected against the Commanders, and everything came crashing down for Washington. Dak Prescott was great and Daron Brand snatched a pass from Sam Howell and took it home, breaking the record for single-handed pick-six record.
When I look back on this game, I'll always remember that Duck punched Cavonte Turpin and the team took a turkey leg out of the Salvation Army cauldron.
Week 13: Thursday night frenzy against the Seattle Seahawks
After all, this might have been Dak Prescott's best personal time. On a night when Dan Quinn's group continued to crumble (that's when the clouds started to get ominous), it was Prescott who continued to punch punch after punch to keep Dallas in the match and ultimately win.
On this night, it seemed like Prescott had a real chance of winning league MVP. It seemed like that.
Week 14: Philadelphia Eagles humiliation
Beating the Philadelphia Eagles is never fun, so this game checked that very specific type of box and therefore did not disappoint. But this past Sunday night, it was clear that Philadelphia was drinking water. But the Cowboys took advantage of that and ensured that the Eagles were completely humiliated from the moment the first whistle blew.
This may have been Stephon Gilmore's best game as a Cowboy.
Week 17: Controversy with the Detroit Lions
It's definitely hard to feel good about this win, just like the other players. The Cowboys defeated the Lions and certainly played well enough to win. But the only thing anyone wanted to talk about was the controversy surrounding the two-point conversion in the final seconds of the game.
As fate would have it, the result didn't really matter, as the Lions would play two games at home before playing in the NFC Championship Game. Sigh.
Week 18: Positive momentum for the playoffs at FedEx (lol)
Things got off to a bit of a shaky start for the Cowboys in the final game of the regular season, which was kind of stressful considering they needed a win to clinch the NFC East championship and the No. 2 seed in the conference. Ta. These things eventually became unimportant, but we didn't know it at the time.
Eventually Dallas settled down and ran away from Washington as the game wore on. It was an afternoon celebration with hats and T-shirts being handed out, and even if we didn't know it, it was the final victory that everyone in this locker room would savor together.
