The Dallas Cowboys took a chance on troubled former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant last year, signing him to their practice squad.
This happened after Bryant, then a member of the Oakland Raiders, returned from the NFL after serving an indefinite suspension in 2018.
Bryant, 32, did not suit up for the team in regular season games. He was ultimately waived from the practice squad earlier this year before signing a future contract with the Boys.
The team appears to have currently discontinued the experiment. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media On Wednesday, it was reported that the Cowboys had permanently released Bryant. His report also indicates that other teams are expected to have interest in the former star pass catcher.

Bryant broke into the industry in 2014 as a fourth-round pick of the Steelers out of Clemson. In his first two seasons, he had 76 receptions, 1,314 yards, and 14 touchdowns.
That's when off-field issues most commonly affected wide receivers. He was suspended for the entire 2016 season for a second violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy. In December 2018, Bryant, a member of the Raiders, was suspended indefinitely for violating the aforementioned policy again. He has not played in a regular season game since then.
What makes this move so surprising is that Dallas went out of its way to take a chance on Bryant. He was looking for depth behind the likes of CeeDee Lamb, Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert. Bryant obviously won't provide that.
