Over the course of 13 years, it's hard to think of many instances where Tyrone Smith has chosen to speak. There's a good chance that some Dallas Cowboys fans of all stripes don't know exactly what his voice sounds like. He chose to speak on the field.
But recent events changed everything about Smith and the Cowboys after he agreed to join the New York Jets last Friday night. Consider that the last time the Cowboys played a game without him on the roster was the final regular season game of Dez Bryant's rookie year. After all, the last NFL game without Smith in the league was Super Bowl 45, which Mike McCarthy won in Smith's future home field.
But Father Time is undefeated and the winds of change are relentless. Tyrone is planning to head north-east soon, but he refuses to head north-east without saying goodbye.
He wrote a memo to Cowboys Nation on Monday afternoon.
Simply put, they don't produce many people or players like Tyron Smith.
To say he will be gone is to state the most obvious thing. Both cited his contributions on the field and in the locker room. He was the longest-tenured player on the roster for a while, and that role was officially passed on to fellow offensive lineman Zach Martin.
Farewell, Tyrone. Thank you, Cowboys fans.
