Dallas-Fort Worth’s workforce grew by more than 76,000 people between February 2023 and February 2024, adding about 40,000 jobs, according to the most recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Across the North Texas region, more than 183,000 people are unemployed, an increase of 9,000 over 2023. That pushed Dallas-Fort Worth’s unemployment rate up 0.2 percentage points from 4.2% in February.

Across the North Texas region, more than 183,000 people are unemployed, an increase of 9,000 over 2023. That pushed Dallas-Fort Worth’s unemployment rate up 0.2 percentage points from 4.2% in February.
Across Texas, the civilian workforce grew by 284,000 from February 2023 to February 2024, and the percentage of the workforce that is unemployed remained at 4.4%. The national unemployment rate increased to 4.2%.
More than 654,000 people were unemployed in February 2023, and that number is expected to reach 666,000 in 2024.
In the Austin-Round Rock area, the unemployment rate increased from 3.5% to 3.7% from February 2023 to February 2024, while the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land area’s unemployment rate remained at 4.6%.
