The Dallas Mavericks are currently 43-29 on the season with 10 games remaining in the regular season, and all signs point to this team being a dangerous contender in the Western Conference.
A key to Dallas' resurgence since the trade deadline has been defensive improvement, and the additions of Daniel Gafford and P.J. Washington provide much-needed reinforcement on that side of the floor.
With both players becoming everyday starters, the possibilities are endless for Dallas this season.
The leadership and dominance of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, as well as the people around them, have taken them from championship contenders to championship contenders, but the person who deserves to crown them is Mavs head coach, It's Jason Kidd.
Kidd has had some questionable moments this season, but has recently made some great decisions that will take his team to the next level. Kidd deserves credit for Dallas' growth, whether it's changing the starting lineup or crafting the incredible final play that helped Irving score the game-winning run against the Denver Nuggets.
And it seems like he wants to stay with the Mavericks.
According to a report from The Athletic's Sam Amick (subscription required), Kidd is “hopeful” he can sign an extension with the Mavericks this summer. Kidd's contract runs through the end of next season, and an extension could keep him in Dallas even longer.
Kidd is a player that Irving and Doncic love to play with, and if this current winning trend continues, extending Kidd could be in their best interest. Having a good leader at the front of your team is important, and so is continuity.
If Nico Harrison believes Kidd can lead Doncic, Irving and the rest of the Mavs team to the promised land, extending Kidd's contract this summer could be a great move. It's important for players to have a coach who loves playing, and the Mavs have that with Kidd.
