Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic was named Western Conference Finals MVP and awarded the Earvin “Magic” Johnson Trophy after defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games. He averaged 32.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 2.2 steals in the series as the Mavericks advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time since winning the championship in 2011. Doncic closed out the Finals with a 36-point performance in Game 5.

Luka Doncic won the voting 9-0, but Kyrie Irving may have been debatable due to his strong play. However, Doncic was the best player in the series and established himself as one of the two best players in the NBA. There were three games in the series in which Irving and Doncic each scored 30 or more points.
The new trophy began being awarded in 2022, with Stephen Curry winning the inaugural award after beating Dallas. Magic Johnson is one of the greatest postseason players of all time, so it makes sense that he would have his name on the trophy, and even more so that Luka Magic would receive it. The Eastern Conference version was named the Larry Bird Trophy, and Boston’s Jaylen Brown won it this year.
The Celtics and Mavericks will meet in the NBA Finals with Game 1 in Boston on June 6. Boston has the best record in the NBA with a 64-18 record and will be tough to beat, but Dallas has the best player in this entire series.
