Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week, the NBA announced Monday. This is the third time this season he has won this award and the 12th time in his career.
From March 4-10, Doncic averaged 37.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 10.7 assists, and 1.3 steals. The Mavericks went 2-1 during that period, losing to the Indiana Pacers but regaining momentum with wins over the Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons.
Against the Pistons, Doncic became the most consecutive player in league history to record 30-point triple-doubles for the sixth time in a row. He passed Russell Westbrook, who had five, for the record. Doncic also made history with five consecutive 35-point triple-doubles.
Doncic has been on a tear this season, but the only reason he's not in the MVP conversation is the Mavericks' lackluster performance. This debate will continue until Dallas becomes a top-three seed and a true championship favorite. Meanwhile, Doncic will likely be interested in getting the Mavericks out of the play-in tournament and into a solid playoff spot.
Dallas started this week with a win over the Chicago Bulls, but they have tougher opponents ahead of them in the form of the Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder. Doncic will need to continue to put up big numbers to keep the Mavericks competitive.
