The Austin-based Kendra Scott Foundation, in partnership with First Book, will open the first Little Yellow Libraries this month on Nov. 28 at four schools in Texas, including Tom C. Gooch Elementary School in Dallas. will be established.

The foundation said Little Yellow Library is the latest program to provide access to books through First Book, which provides books and resources to classrooms and libraries that need them most. If children cannot read by third grade, they will not be able to get the most out of their education, ultimately limiting their potential, the foundation said. By launching Little Yellow Libraries in Title I schools, the foundation says it helps children thrive in school and helps enrich the lives of youth through education.
Education is one of the Foundation's primary philanthropic programs, and the Foundation is committed to the advancement of educators, disadvantaged students, and families through scholarships, literacy and learning, and library enrichment.
The Little Yellow Library concept is scheduled to launch in four Texas markets this year.
Batty Elementary School (Austin) on Nov. 29, along with Tom C. Gooch Elementary School in Dallas; Adams Elementary School (San Antonio), November 30th. and Best Elementary School (Houston) on December 1st.
The Kendra Scott Foundation partnered with YES Texas to identify schools in need in Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio, and collaborated with the New York City Federation of Teachers.
Bringing Little Yellow Libraries to more schools
The foundation says its 4-foot-by-3-foot custom Little Yellow Library bookcase was designed by Kendra Scott's creative team to specifically appeal to children, with easy-to-access shelves and branded It features an attractive arched silhouette in bright yellow and features 200 multicultural themes. In addition, a $1,000 gift certificate to First Book Marketplace to purchase more books and a $2,500 grant from the Kendra Scott Foundation to support the school will be provided. Each student will also receive a social-emotional learning book and stuffed animal in partnership with Slumberkins.
First Book is a recognized leader in education and literacy advocacy, reaching 5 million children annually in low-income communities across North America, according to the foundation. As the foundation focuses on literacy initiatives this holiday season, Kendra Scott customers can round up their change to the nearest dollar at Kendra Scott stores and online through Dec. 31.
Proceeds will be donated to the foundation, which will expand its efforts to open 15 additional libraries in Title 1 schools across the country in 2024.
The foundation announced that Title I educators can submit applications for Little Yellow Libraries starting Nov. 28, which coincides with Giving Tuesday.
